Garden clubs may not be meeting, thanks to COVID-19, and public facilities may be closed, but it’s impossible to discourage enthusiastic gardeners.

One look at the line-ups at local garden centres – with shoppers patiently lining up two metres apart – is enough to prove that it takes more than a pandemic to discourage a gardener.

St. Paul’s Anglican Church in South Barrie is inviting local gardeners to participate in an online plant sale.

The church has provided an online catalogue of annuals and perennials – including Amaranthus, Bee Balm, Black-eyed Susan, Cosmos, Day Lilies and Dahlias, Cone Flowers (Echinacea), Hostas, Lady’s Mantle and other plants, many of them attractive to pollinators, and many, like Liatris (Blazing Star), native to Canada.

There are even potted tomato plants and peppers, for those looking for plants for the vegetable garden.

And prices are reasonable – generally $3 to $5 per plant.

For more details or to order, contact church warden Marilyn Hutchison, at [email protected] or 705-791-6866. Orders must be received before June 4.

Payment is by etransfer, or by cash or cheque (exact amount, due on pick-up, in a sealed envelope). Pick-up will be on Saturday June 6, in the church parking lot; customers will be given a time for curbside pick-up.
