Public Health Ontario has reported fewer than 100 new cases every day for the last seven days. For the first time in months, the province is also reporting fewer than 1,000 active cases of COVID-19 Ontario-wide.
Today, the province's public health agency confirmed 79 new cases, 148 new recoveries, and two deaths.
The two deaths include one person over 80 years old and one person between 40 and 59 years old.
Included in today's 70 new cases are 32 people between the ages of 20 and 39, and 27 people between the ages of 40 and 59. There is one new case in a person over 80 years old, seven new cases in people aged 60-79 and 12 new cases in people aged 19 years old or under.
Of the 34 health units in the province, 30 of them reported fewer than five new cases for today's provincial update, and 18 of those reported zero new cases. The remaining four included Ottawa (six new cases), Peel (17 new cases), Toronto (25 new cases), and York Region (nine new cases).
The average incidence rate in the province is 269.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Based on the information included in the provincial summary, there are 981 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, including 55 individuals who are hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 26 COVID patients in intensive care units and 12 patients on ventilators.
To date, Public Health Ontario has reported 40,046 cases of COVID-19, with 36,279 of those cases now listed as recovered, and 2,786 cases ending in death.
Since yesterday's report, the province reported 27,771 more COVID tests have been completed, bringing the cumulative total to more than 2.4 million tests processed.
As of Aug. 7, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 666 cases of COVID-19 to date, with 635 of those cases located in Simcoe County.
There are 613 cases now recovered and 37 people have died in the region. The health unit indicates there are 16 active cases in the region – all in Simcoe County.
In Simcoe-Muskoka, the incidence rate for the coronavirus is 112 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
