Health unit reports a dozen new COVID cases in Simcoe County

The two Bradford cases include two girls under 17 while three of the Barrie cases involve women aged 18 to 34

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today.

The new cases include five Barrie residents and three Bradford-West Gwillimbury residents as well as single cases in Wasaga Beach, New Tecumseth, Oro-Medonte and Collingwood, which hadn't had a positive case reported since Aug. 20.

Among the Barrie cases are three men between 18 and 34 years old with two listed as under investigation and the third acquired through close contact. The other Barrie cases involve a man between 65 and 79 years old that's now under investigation and a woman between the ages of 45 and 64 (close contact).

The two Bradford cases include two girls under 17 (under investigation) and a 45 to 64 year-old man (close contact), which is the same demographic as the New Tecumseth and Wasaga Beach are now listed as under investigation and community-acquired, respectfully.

Oro-Medonte, which hadn't reported a case since Aug. 4, involves a woman between the ages of 18 and 34 and marks the township's first case since August 4 while the New Tecumseth case involves a man between the ages of 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are now under investigation.

The Collingwood case involves a man between the ages of 18 and 34 and is also listed as under investigation.

There is one active outbreak at long-term care facilities in the region (Roberta Place in Barrie where one staff member has tested positive for COVID-19). A previously reported outbreak at the The Pines Long Term Care Residence in Bracebridge is now declared over.

Two cases previously assigned to Innisfil were re-assigned to Bradford West-Gwillimbury, a case assigned to Bradford West-Gwillibury was reassigned to Innisfil, a Barrie case was reassigned to New Tecumseth and a Muskoka case previously assigned to Huntsville was transferred to Gravehurst.

There have now been 790 cases reported in the health unit's catchment area with 682 recoveries listed with 37 deaths.
