Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,822 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is just 33 fewer than the record set yesterday.
The vast majority of those new cases - 1,434 or almost 79% - occurred in the GTA and Waterloo. The provincial health agency says there were 566 new cases reported in Toronto yesterday, with 516 in Peel, 145 in York Region, 105 in Waterloo and 102 in Hamilton.
Over the past seven days, there has been an average of 1,523 new, lab-confirmed cases daily across the province.
The agency also reported 29 new deaths related to the coronavirus over the past 24 hours; 11 of those were residents of long-term care facilities. Yesterday, 20 deaths were reported - 14 of which were residents of long-term care facilities.
Since yesterday, 51 more people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and four more COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.
More than 1,510 cases have been resolved since yesterday. Since the pandemic began, 95,876 of the 113,038 total cases have been resolved.
Over the past 24 hours, almost 55,100 tests were completed, which is about 3,000 fewer than the record number of tests processed the previous day.
Since the start of the pandemic, public health labs in Ontario have processed 6.18 million COVID-19 tests.
Throughout Ontario, there are 595 people hospitalized with the coronavirus (up from 541 yesterday) and 155 of those patients are in intensive care units. There are 99 COVID patients on ventilators.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 2,021 cases of COVID-19, with 1,929 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,735 cases listed as recovered in the region. Thirteen people are currently hospitalized, all are Simcoe County residents. The health unit has confirmed 52 deaths since March.
The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 358 cases per 100,000 people. With a seven-day average of 29.2 cases per 100,000 people in a week. The region's reproductive rate shows every person who contracts COVID-19 transmits it to 1.1 other people, and testing data shows 2.1 per cent of people who are tested in the region test positive for COVID-19.
