Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 today with a range of transmission sources, including a travel-related case and one more workplace-related case.
There are five new cases confirmed in Barrie residents being reported today, including three women, one in her 20s, one in her 30s, and one in her 40s. All are community-acquired cases. The other two cases from Barrie include a man in his 30s (transmission under investigation) and a man in his 40s, whose case is linked to travel.
There are three new cases in Bradford West-Gwillimbury residents, including a man in his 50s (community-acquired), a woman in her 20s (close contact) and a man in his 50s (close contact).
An Innisfil woman in her 40s has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been identified as a close contact of another known case.
There are two cases from Muskoka today, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s, both from Muskoka Lakes. There hasn't been a case reported in Muskoka Lakes since June 19, and before that not since April 14.
The only workplace-related case reported today is a man in his 40s from New Tecumseth.
The health unit has declared outbreaks at two farms in Simcoe County, as well as at a food processing facility. The health unit has declined to name the farms or the food processing facility. According to Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, there are 24 cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County residents linked to workplace outbreaks.
The health unit has reported 37 new cases of COVID-19 this week in the region. Last week (June 15-19) the health unit reported 40 new cases. For the week of June 8-12, the health unit reported 26 new cases. And for the week of June 1-5, the health unit reported 19 new cases.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 589 cases of the coronavirus in the region to-date, and reported 471 of those cases as recovered.
There are 82 active cases of COVID-19 in the region (77 in Simcoe County), including five people who have been hospitalized with the virus.
The incidence rate for COVID-19 infections in Simcoe-Muskoka region is 99.1 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
The health unit has now released incidence rate information for several of the region's municipality, which showed Bradford West-Gwillimbury has the highest incidence rate with 283.9 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 population.
New Tecumseth followed Bradford with an incidence rate of 176.2 cases per 100,000 population, and Barrie was next with 121.2 cases per 100,000 population.
The average incidence rate for the province of Ontario is 230.1 cases per 100,000 people, and the rate for Simcoe County is 106.8 cases per 100,000 people.
