Ontario reports 189 new cases of COVID-19 today

The province has reported ten more deaths attributed to the coronavirus

Public Health Ontario is reporting 189 new cases of COVID-19 today, with nearly 40 per cent of those cases in people between the ages of 20 and 39. 

According to today's epidemiological report, the cases reported today include 90 people under the age of 39 with 20 under 20 years old, and another 87 people between the ages of 40 and 79. There are 13 new cases in people over the age of 80. 

More than 20,000 of Ontario's total COVID-19 cases are people aged 20 to 59. 

The province is reporting 10 more deaths attributed to COVID-19 today, including three people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people over the age of 80. 

In Ontario, 31 per cent of people over 80 who have contracted COVID-19 have died. Ten per cent of people aged 60 to 79 who have tested positive for the coronavirus have died and one per cent of people between the ages of 40 and 59 who have contracted the virus have died. There have been 12 deaths of people under 40 reported by Public Health Ontario, which is about 0.1 per cent of those in that age group who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Public Health Ontario has reported a total of 34,205 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since January. Of those, 29,528 are now considered recovered, and 2,641 people have died, leaving 2,036 active cases of the coronavirus in the province. 

There are 270 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 69 patients in intensive care units and 47 patients on ventilators. 

Since the last report, Ontario has added 192 recoveries and 27,511 tests processed. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 577 cases of the coronavirus in the region to-date, and reported 468 (81 per cent) of those cases as recovered.

There are 74 active cases of COVID-19 in the region (70 in Simcoe County), including five people who have been hospitalized with the virus.

The incidence rate for COVID-19 infections in Simcoe-Muskoka region is 96.7 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
