InnisfilToday received the following letter from Pumpkin Walk organizer Marj Mossman thanking the community:

My name is Marj Mossman and I got the idea from Sorauren Park in Toronto that started collecting pumpkins for the community in 2004.

My grandsons told me it was so much fun seeing their friends and walking along the path. I planted the idea in Innisfil and this year the Innisfil Historical Society decided that I should try for a Town permit.

In talking about it I asked if the ideaLAB & Library, Clean up Innisfil, Innisfil Arts Council and the Rotary Club of Innisfil would like to join our event with volunteers. I was delighted when we received the permit and  everything fell into place.

I always say it is when we act together that things can and do happen.

When I saw the 953 pumpkins (counted by our student volunteers from Nantyr Shores and St. Peter's High Schools) I could hardly believe my eyes. When the families started to appear, the older folks out for some fresh air before bed and the curious walking by joined in I just knew we had a new event in Innisfil.

At 8:30, three pickup trucks and trailers drove in and the volunteers threw the pumpkins on and away they went to Wilson Creek Farms for feed and compost. I would like to thank all the volunteers and the public for their participation and enthusiasm. We did it together!

Marj Mossman crowned the 'pumpkin princess' for the night!
Thank you.
