Two people were taken to hospital following a "very serious" collision between an ambulance and a motorcycle Saturday evening at Bayfield and Livingstone streets in Barrie's north end.

City police responded to the call at 6:07 p.m.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the passenger on the motorcycle was rushed to local hospital with serious injuries. The passenger was then taken to a Toronto trauma centre by ambulance. There was no update on their condition Saturday night.

The motorcycle driver was also transported to hospital.

There were no patients on board the ambulance at the time of the collision, but Leon said paramedics were responding to a call when the crash occurred.

"The paramedics are OK, from what I understand," Leon said.

The Barrie police traffic unit continues to investigate. The road was closed for the investigation, but has since reopened.
