60 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka Wednesday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 60 new COVID-19 cases and one death in its latest update posted Nov. 24.

A Barrie woman between 45 and 64 years old has died after contracting COVID-19. She died on Nov. 23.

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:  

  • Wasaga Beach (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Barrie (18): Seven youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old. Three cases are listed as community-acquired, two are outbreak-related, and two are linked to close contact. The rest of the cases are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (2): One youth under 18 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is outbreak-related and the other is under investigation.  
  • Orillia (3): Two people between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact and the other two are under investigation. 
  • Oro-Medonte (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old, whose case is linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Ramara (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Midland (4): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission, and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Severn (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is still under investigation.
  • Penetanguishene (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is still under investigation.
  • Essa (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission and one is still under investigation. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (4): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and two people between 35 and 44 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission and two are still under investigation. 
  • New Tecumseth (7): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation.
  • Muskoka District (9): Two people from Gravenhurst and seven people from Huntsville. 

Included in the new cases reported today are 38 unvaccinated, two partially vaccinated, and 20 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 522 active cases in the region. 

Twenty-four people from Simcoe County and one from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19. Among those hospitalized are 17 unvaccinated individuals, six fully vaccinated people, and two people with a single dose of vaccine. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 15,210 cases of COVID-19 with 14,410 of those cases recovered and 278 cases ending in death. 

More than 74 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and 77 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

  • ES Le Caron secondary school, Penetanguishene, declared Nov. 19, seven cases
  • Forest Hill Public School, Midhurst, declared Nov. 19, four cases
  • St. Ann's elementary school, Penetanguishene, declared Nov. 19, two cases
  • West Bayfield Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, seven cases
  • Trillium Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, five cases
  • Severn Shores Public School, Cumberland Beach, declared Nov. 18, seven cases 
  • Emma King Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 17, nine cases
  • Maple Grove Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 16, 12 cases
  • St. Joan of Arc Secondary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 16, five cases
  • St. Marie of the Incarnation, Bradford, declared Nov. 15, six cases
  • Monsignor Clair Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 15, five cases
  • W.C. Little Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 12, 10 cases
  • Nottawa Elementary School, Clearview Township, declared Nov. 12, three cases
  • Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, seven cases
  • St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 1, 11 cases
