On June 20, the Board of Trustees for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) passed a balanced operating budget for the 2022-2023 school year in the amount of $298,394,673. The Board also approved a 1 per cent operating reserve.

The Board’s funding is based on enrolment as well as special funds allocated from the Ministry of Education called Grants for Student Needs (GSNs). The Board projects that enrollment will increase slightly in the coming school year.

“We certainly still have to plan for some post-COVID challenges,” said Joe Zerdin, Board Chair. “Staffing, transportation, and supply costs continue to put pressure on our bottom line, as in so many other organizations and businesses.”

“Mental health supports remain a priority, which is good news for our students and their families. And I think everyone is excited about the growth in the southern area of our school board. Two new schools will alleviate space pressures at existing schools, and allow us to continue offering faith-based learning that is important to so many families.”
