Classic Car & Truck Show set to motor into Cookstown Aug. 18

Event, expected to attract hundreds of vehicles, will aid the Innisfil Food Bank, organizers say

The Innisfil Beach Cruisers Car Club is inviting car enthusiasts, families, and their furry friends to the IBC Cookstown Classic Car & Truck Show on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Georgian Bay Steam Show Grounds (4635 Victoria St. W.).

Community members may be familiar with the Innisfil Beach Cruisers Car Club’s weekly meetings, but the club’s photographer and social media promoter, Walter Rosenberger, told InnisfilToday this event is far bigger than regular events, as they began organizing it in February. He said it attracts “multiple car clubs and individuals from all over the region.”

Cool cars and classic rides expected to be on display at the third annual show include cars from the 1930s to state-of-the-art modern cars, trucks, and bikes. Hundreds of spectators with more than 400 cars attended last year.

The cost of admission is $10 per car and children 12 and under who walk or ride their bicycles to the car show get in for free.

Formerly called the Cookstown Cancer Classic Car & Truck Show, the renamed event will support local charities with funds raised.

“A major portion will go to the Innisfil Food Bank and, depending on how much we take in, the remaining will go to local charities,” said Rosenberger.

He explained that those who want to show off their classic car need not pre-register — simply show up on Aug. 18.

The first 100 cars to arrive will receive gift bags, which include swag from the event’s sponsors. A food truck and an ice cream truck will be onsite. The event will proceed rain or shine, and it is spread across multiple acres.

Judges will pick the best rides in multiple classes, including vintage, classic, custom and pick-up. Winners will earn a plaque.

“Unlike a lot of other car show events that have shuttle service or make visitors walk a distance to find parking, we have plenty of onsite parking and offer assistance to those with mobility issues,” Rosenberger said.

People interested in participating as a vendor are invited to send a message to Ron Haist, the vice president of the Innisfil Beach Cruisers Car Club, through the club’s Facebook page. A 10’x10’ area is available to prospective vendors for $50 until Aug. 11.

In addition to donating all net proceeds to charities the registered not-for-profit organization is also "very strong in supporting our local businesses and invite them to become a vendor to further their recognition as a community source for those crafts and/or products,” Haist said.
