Couch to 5k – What is your mindset teaching you?

Cheryl Clark from Embrace and Become business networking group compares different mindsets when it comes to challenges

Crazy enough I started a couch to 5k group with the intent of us all working out collectively throughout the summer, making us all accountable to one another.  The end goal is to be able to complete a 5k by the end of August.

According to the apps I have searched, this is typically a nine week program and very doable for beginners.

We are giving ourselves 11 to 12 weeks (plenty of time according to my research).

In the group:

I shared NO expectation of whether we were walking, jogging, running.
I shared NO expectation of how long the actual completed 5K should take us.
I shared NO expectation of check in, reporting and or how accountable we would all be held.
I shared NO fee expectations for the group or 5K run.

Let me share the two types of responses I received to my proposition from some fellow entrepreneurs:

#1 –
“I gardened TODAY – that was enough for me.”  Key word TODAY, not even seeing the 11-week journey on the post.
“Sorry, Cheryl I am not available on that day.”  What day exactly?  There is no date shown on any of the messages.
“Do we have to run? I can’t run.”  I never shared the how.  The use of the word ‘can’t’ struck a moment of thought in my brain as well – can’t due to inability or won’t due to not trying?
“I got the couch part down, have fun.”  Where is the drive to do and be more?
“I will cheer you on and watch.”  We all need cheerleaders but why not try with us?

#2 –
“I am so in.”  Does not ask for details, does not ask any questions – just gets on board and wants to get going.
“I have always wanted to do this.”  Sees the opportunity and is ready.
“Can I invite others? This sounds awesome.”  Team player, builder, and opportunity sharer.

Which are you?

Are you looking for reasons not to move forward and tackle something new?  Are you wanting to watch and see how others do first?  Are you finding excuses before you even understand what is required and being asked of you?  Are you putting up stumbling blocks before you even move forward?

Or

Are you diving in and ready to take on challenges even if you do not fully understand them?  Will you learn as you go and adapt,  pivot as needed to get involved and possibly complete something?   Will you bring positive energy and enthusiasm to a project and group despite how hard and out of your comfort zone it may be?

Couch to 5K  - even before it begins – can teach us so much about one another.
Are you ready?
