The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported eight new COVID-19 cases and no deaths in today's update (July 23).
Three of today's new cases are Collingwood youth under 18. The case transmission for all three is linked to close contact with another known case or cases.
There are two new cases in Barrie today, including one youth under 17 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old.
There's one new case in Essa, a person between 19 and 34 years old and one in Oro-Medonte, a person between 35 and 44 years old. Both case transmissions are listed as community-acquired (no known link).
The final case confirmed today is a Gravenhurst woman between 18 and 34 years old.
There are currently 30 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,350 cases of COVID-19 with 12,065 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.
There are four people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses, with no new hospitalizations reported today.
The health unit has confirmed 4,975 variant cases in the region so far, with seven of those cases still active.
Fifty-two per cent of the region's total population is fully vaccinated, and another 16 per cent has one dose of a COVID vaccine. The remaining 32 per cent is unvaccinated, which includes children under 12 who are ineligible for a vaccine at this time.
According to Public Health Ontario, of the 9,673 cases reported between Dec. 14 and July 10 in Simcoe-Muskoka, 2.6 per cent were symptomatic cases in partially vaccinated people, and 0.3 per cent were symptomatic breakthrough cases (both doses of a vaccine).
Adding asymptomatic cases, the numbers go up to 3.5 per cent for partially vaccinated individuals, and 0.4 per cent breakthrough cases.
Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
