Flames through the roof in Alcona garage fire (7 photos)(updated)

This is the third garage fire in Innisfil this week

Update:

The call reporting a structure fire in a garage off Raynor Court in Alcona came in at around 7 p.m. on Jan. 15.

Firefighters arrived to find a detached 3-car garage, approx.. 20 metres from a home, fully involved – with flames shooting through the roof.

There was no damage to the nearby home, noted Deputy Fire Chief Tim McCallum, but it was a different story for the garage. “Unfortunately, the building and the contents are a complete loss,” he said, estimated the damages at approx.. $400,000.

Investigators were sifting through the burnt-out shell, and planning to bring in heavy equipment to move debris to facilitate the investigation. At this time, there is no known cause of the fire and, said McCallum, “There’s no reason to think it’s suspicious.”

He noted that none of the three fires this past week appear to involve any foul play. The cause of the blaze in Lefroy on Jan. 11 remains ‘undetermined,’ but a fire in a Gilford garage the next day has been traced to a space heater.

Original story:

For the third time in a week, Innisfil Fire & Rescue crews were called out to a structure fire in a garage.

Early in the evening of Jan. 15, firefighters arrived at a residence off Raynor Court in Alcona to find the detached garage fully involved, and flames shooting through the roof.

Fire crews doused fire, deploying an aerial ladder truck in the parking lot of the adjacent Home Hardware store, to extinguish still-smouldering hot spots.

On Jan. 11, Innisfil Fire & Rescue was called to garage fire on Ewart Street in Belle Ewart; on Jan. 12, firefighters responded to a blaze in an attached garage in Gilford.

Fire Prevention officers warn that this is the season, with people using space heaters, for such fires, especially considering the 'fuel load' - gas and other flammables - kept in garages.

Further details to come as information becomes available.
