Four new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka today

There is one case in Barrie, but no new cases in Innisfil included in today's update

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported four new COVID-19 cases and no deaths in its Aug. 4 update.

New cases reported today include: 

  • Collingwood (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case transmission is listed as community-acquired (no known link). The case was confirmed on December 25, 2020 but was not previously reported. 
  • Barrie (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case transmission is still under investigation. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (2): Two people between 34 and 44 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and the other is still under investigation. 

There are currently 29 active cases in the region. 

There are two people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses, which includes one new hospitalization since yesterday.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,385 cases of COVID-19 with 12,101 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.

The health unit has confirmed 5,068 variant cases in the region so far, with 14 of those cases still active. 

A breakdown of cumulative confirmed variant cases from the health unit indicates the following: 

  • 4,000 alpha cases
  • 167 gamma cases
  • 34 beta cases
  • and 195 delta cases

Currently, 66 per cent of the population 12 years and older living in Simcoe-Muskoka have received both doses of vaccine and 12 per cent have had their first vaccine dose. The remaining 21 per cent is unvaccinated.

Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on Aug. 4.
