A gastroenteric outbreak has been declared on the Barrie hospital’s transitional care unit.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Twelve patients and two staff have tested positive and have been isolated, according to RVH officials.

"Enhanced cleaning measures are underway and all contact precautions are being taken," the hospital said in a news release.

Admissions to the unit are on hold at this time and visitors are not permitted, however some exceptions may apply.
