Innisfil Community Fridge Project expands to 2 new locations

There are fridges now set up at both the Lakeshore and Cookstown Libraries as well as the Innisfil Recreation Complex

There are now a total of three community fridges in the Town of Innisfil, helping residents access nutritious food.

The Troy Scott Community Fridge was first opened outside the Innisfil Recreation Complex in June 2021 as a result of the economic impacts felt in the community due to the pandemic. It was named after the late Stroud Foodland owner, Troy Scott, who passed away from COVID-19 earlier this year.

Scott was a staple in the community, well-known for his generous spirit, and involvement with community charities and initiatives like the Innisfil Food Bank and The Rotary Club of Innisfil.

The fridge at the recreation complex is located outside and accessible 24/7. Thanks to a donation from Alcona Home Hardware and the work of Nantyr Shores Secondary School students, the fridge has a custom-built, winterized structure.

The community fridge initiative has since expanded to two new locations, at the Cookstown Library Branch (20 Church St.) and Alcona Lakeshore Library Branch (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.)

The fridges at the library branches are located indoors and open during regular library business hours.

Anyone is welcome to take as much from the fridge as many times as needed. And anyone in the position to donate is encouraged to do so.

If you’d like to donate food items but are unable to visit the fridge, you can make a financial donation online and groceries will be purcbased on your behalf.
