A new landscape feature, including a flagpole to fly the Pride flag year-round, will be installed near the entrance to Innisfil Beach Park to demonstrate the town's commitment to inclusivity.

“This a great step forward in recognizing the town’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion and will clearly demonstrate that all are welcome,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin in a news release.

In spring 2021, members of Innisfil Pride and town staff began a collaborative initiative to install a Pride crosswalk at Innisfil Beach Park. Since the installation of this crosswalk, there has been significant impact from vehicular traffic and weathering.

Understanding a more permanent solution was needed, staff revisited the crosswalk concept with Innisfil Pride and UPlift Black and agreed on a new alternative.

A brief ceremony will be held at Innisfil Beach Park, just inside the park entrance on June 7 at 9:30 a.m. to raise the flag. This follows a flag raising at town hall on June 2 at 1 p.m. to celebrate Pride Month.
