McHappy Day springs into action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 and Barrie McDonald’s Restaurants will be donating a portion of proceeds from sales of all menu items to benefit Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) future expansion of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and to Ronald McDonald House Toronto.

“McDonald’s continued support of our NICU and lifesaving care for newborns is truly meaningful, heart-warming, and also vital,” says Pamela Ross, RVH Foundation CEO. “RVH relies heavily on donations raised by generous community partners like McDonald’s Restaurants to make necessary expansions for the benefit of patients and their families, and to ensure the most up-to-date technologies and tools are put in the skilled hands of our care teams.”

Over 2,000 babies are born at RVH each year with about 15 per cent requiring care in the NICU, sometimes for weeks at a time. With only 35 square feet of space for each incubator and family in an open concept environment, an expansion is being planned so families can better be at the bedside of their infants.

More room will also mean there is appropriate privacy for feeding and caring for their babies and there is space for additional specialized equipment and technology required for newborns, who can be premature and fragile.

“We are proud to support the future expansion of RVH’s NICU and Ronald McDonald House Toronto, which provides a home-away-from-home for our local families while their seriously ill child is being treated in hospital, because we know how much both charities matter to families,” says Jason O’Neill, McDonald’s owner/operator. “McHappy Day is about the power of community and both RVH and Ronald McDonald House Toronto provide compassion and care for our most precious treasures – our children.“

Over the past several years, Barrie’s McDonald’s restaurants have raised more than $185,000 through McHappy Day, supporting RVH’s Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Mental Health Program and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as supporting the RVH COVID Response Fund during a special Health Care Heroes initiative last year.

“We are always so proud to support our community through McHappy Day – and we can’t thank our customers enough for their ongoing support of this special and meaningful fundraiser,” says Trevor McKee, owner/operator Barrie.

This Wednesday, help support RVH’s NICU and Ronald McDonald House Toronto by visiting a Barrie McDonald’s and purchasing any of your favourite menu items.
