Miniature art gallery one of many reasons to check out Halliday House and Co. this season (22 photos)

Halliday House is host of the annual 6x6xCookstown art show, running until Dec. 5

The annual 6x6xCookstown art show is on until Dec. 5 at Halliday House & Co. in Cookstown.

The miniature art show has been a tradition since the store opened four years ago, featuring one-of-a-kind art pieces from local artists on a six-inch square frame, with prices ranging anywhere from $25-$300.

This year, notable pieces include a 'Geek Chic' by Bruce MacCormack, a collection of hat and tie pins made from computer bits, pendant necklaces with semi-precious stones, abalone shells and crystals from Kyla Martino, and a das clay sculpture, 'The Twins' situated inside a piece of circular-cut wood from Gail Esau.

"There are always very unique pieces for sure," said Halliday House shop owner, Jennifer Halliday, "it's always interesting to see who brings in what."

Throughout the store, Halliday stocks unique home decor, gifts and antiques from various local vendors, like Two Sisters Natural, a skin and body care line out of Barrie, Lamb + Kiss soy candles from Penetanguishene, and fashion jewellery from Lover's Tempo.

The store also carries the Canadian line of Fusion Mineral Paint for DIY projects, and even operates its own floral services inside the shop.

Since COVID, Halliday says the store has been keeping busy.

"It's been okay, I think people have really shifted their mindset to try and support their local businesses," she said, "I have a great client base and people have made a point of coming and supporting."

She is hopeful for a busy holiday season, stocking the store with unique gifts and holiday decor.

The shop is located at 9 Queen St. in Cookstown, open Tuesday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
