John Brassard is the Conservative MP for Barrie-Innisfil.

The following statement was released by Barrie-Innisfil MP John Brassard:

This Canada Day we celebrate our nation’s 155th birthday.

How wonderful it is to once again have an opportunity to get together with family and friends today at various community events or backyard parties to have some fun, reflect on how fortunate we are to live in this great country and remember how proud we are to be Canadian.

Traditionally, this is one of my busiest and most exciting days each year as your MP. I’ll be attending several events and meeting up with as many people as possible. I’ve really missed the opportunity to meet face-to-face with residents and to share a few laughs and community spirit.

I hope everyone in Barrie-Innisfil will take some time today to celebrate our rich history, culture, and achievements. I hope you take the time to reflect on the hard-fought freedoms we enjoy as Canadians – the freedom to speak our opinions without fear, the freedom to practice our faith, and the freedom to love. I also hope you reflect on the important value we must place on our democracy, our institutions, and the rule of law.

This Canada Day, the City of Vancouver is hosting a Canada Together celebration with the theme of "weaving together the fabric of a nation."

It’s a terrific sentiment that I share because Canada is a nation woven together by 155 years of distinct regions, ideals, races, faiths, and political beliefs that should be celebrated.

Today and every day, let’s be kind, caring, and compassionate in the spirit of what it means to be Canadian.

From my family to yours, I wish everyone a safe and joyous Canada Day. I hope you find the time to relax and enjoy your time with family and friends.
