Big Bay Point Road is being widened to five lanes to alleviate congestion in Barrie’s south end and accommodate growth. The project features include:

  • road widening from two to five lanes, including continuous two-way left-turn median
  • 1.5-metre bicycle lanes with .5-metre buffer on both sides of the road
  • construction of new curbs, sidewalk and improved drainage systems
  • water main replacement
  • intersection and illumination improvements

The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year. For more details on the project, visit the Big Bay Point Road Transportation Improvements page via
