Six new COVID cases in the region today

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported six new COVID-19 cases and no deaths in today's update (July 29).

There are three new cases in Barrie. Two are individuals between the ages of 18 and 34. One is an individual under the age of 17. The transmission source for all cases remain under investigation.

There are two new cases in Wasaga Beach. Both are individuals between the ages of 45 and 64. One is reported to have been community acquired. The transmission source for the second case remains under investigation.

One case has been reported in Georgian Bay Township and is an individual between the ages of 45 and 64. The transmission source remains under investigation.

There are currently 36 active cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,373 cases of COVID-19 with 12,082 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.

There are two people from Simcoe-Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses.

The health unit has confirmed 5,055 variant cases in the region so far, with 24 of those cases still active. 

Fifty-five per cent of the region's total population is fully vaccinated, and another 13 per cent has one dose of a COVID vaccine. The remaining 31 per cent is unvaccinated, which includes children under 12 who are ineligible for a vaccine at this time.

Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on July 21.
