As the sun set on a warm fall Sunday night, more than 50 people helped charity with their dinner order.
The Innisfil Lions Club put on their second annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser for childhood cancer, with the proceeds going directly to Candlelighters Simcoe, which provides programs and services in the county and surrounding areas for families of children with cancer.
Keagan Marges-Walker, 9, was happy to indulge in the pasta.
His mom, Tammy Marges, is a longtime Lion, so she and her family love supporting the club and all its aspects.
“The kids think of this place as their second home,” she said of the Lions Hall.
A member for more than 25 years, she was originally a Lioness and now a Lion.
“I love giving back to the community," said Marges, whose mom was in the club a generation before her.
Marges runs the Canada Day event and, with her mother, they are heavily involved in the other social aspects of the sub like the dart league, euchre and kids bingo.
Chartered in 1973, the Lions Club of Innisfil last year gave out more than $20,000 to local groups, said president Alison Jacks.
“We are always looking to build our community,” she said.
Jacks said her favourite part of being a Lion is a sense of belonging within a service club with like-minded people, as well as to the community at large.
