South Simcoe Police Service is proud to participate in the first ever Global Virtual Torch Run for Special Olympics Ontario!
In this year's unique circumstances, everyone is invited to show their "virtual" support by running, walking or biking and sharing a photo on social media with the hashtag #GlobalVirtualTorchRun. SSPS is holding two formal events. The first is a 3.3 km run to mark 33 years of Special Olympics in Ontario on Friday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. from the parking lot of the North Division located at 2137 Innisfil Beach Road, Innisfil.
Prior to the start of the run, at 10:30 a.m., Chief Andrew Fletcher, Chair of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee, will have the honour of presenting local athlete Monique Shah of Bradford with the Special Olympics Female Athlete of the Year Award! Innisfil athletes David Whyne and Julia Babcock will also be in attendance along with Cody Jansma, Director, Business Development Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Ontario.
The second event is on Saturday, Sept. 19, starting at 8 a.m., when Auxiliary members will be doing a 33km bike ride starting at the South Division located at 81 Melbourne Drive, Bradford.
This year's Torch Run has received overwhelming support from our members with many completing the symbolic 3.3kms challenge.
The events are NOT open to the public and we ask that media respect physical distancing and wear face-coverings when necessary.
