Two face impaired driving, drug charges following weekend occurrences

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO AND ESSA TOWNSHIPS - On Saturday, June 12, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), investigated and charged two impaired drivers.

At approximately 1:51 a.m., police responded to an unwanted person call in the Town of New Tecumseth. Police arrived on scene and entered into an investigation.

As a result, 38-year-old Sylvanna Acosta of Scarborough was charged with the following:
    •    Operation while impaired
    •    Obstruct peace officer
    •    Cause a disturbance
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance
    •    Traffic in schedule I substance
    •    Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
    •    Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 1, 2021.

At approximately 4:17 a.m., Police responded to information of a possible break and enter in the Town of New Tecumseth. On scene, they located a vehicle and driver and entered into an investigation.

As a result, 57-year-old Charles Tabone of New Tecumseth was charged with the following:
    •    Operation while impaired
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on July 15, 2021.

Police are reminding the public, if you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1 immediately.
