What will you remember?

I was around for the 'Great Ice Storm of 1998' in Ontario.

At the time of that occurrence and for months (maybe even a few years) after, I remembered:

  • My neighbours' names
  • Us all breaking ice together off our electrical lines and tree branches
  • Meal deliveries to one another's doors, as we shared from one kitchen to another
  • Hearing of a need in another and watching everyone swoop in to meet that need
  • Small business owners and locals coming together as ‘community’

I remember transparency, vulnerability and how every single person rose to be a ‘hero’.

Every. Single. Person.

Everyone got up, addressed the day, moment by moment, and did what needed to be done 'til nightfall and then the next morning rose again.

Crazy enough the memories faded over the years – until now.

What I hope you will remember as this time fades into a memory is:

  • Your local small business community doing their best to still shine and share.
  • Social media becoming a place where exchanges of needs and surplus cross paths.
  • Yourself – how you got up every single day seeking connection, community and doing what you needed to do till  nightfall when you would rest and then get up again..

What will you remember?

It is my hope you will see your community through different eyes and truly look to support, encourage, and cheer on your local ‘hero’ – including yourself.
