Winners from Innisfil's Got Talent contest will perform at next year's Onion Fest

The winners will perform at next year's first-ever Onion Festival in Innisfil

ICE Corp (Innisfil Community Events) recently held a virtual talent show for Innisfil residents, showcasing a variety of acts from local community members for a chance to win a cash prize.

This was the first talent show of its kind hosted by ICE Corp which received over 30 submissions from local talent ranging from ages 10 to late ’50s.

“Our biggest surprise was how many youths participated which was a nice silver lining we didn’t expect,” shared Dana Watts, volunteer with ICE Corp and one of the organizers of the talent show. “A lot of parents said this helped their mental health and gave them something to focus on.”

The contest was held in early September and featured a variety of entertainment including singing, dancing, musical instruments (such as piano and guitar), rapping, band performances, and even fire-breathing.

Local contestants pre-registered for the event and submitted a video of their performance in advance for select judges to review.

It was a tough decision, but the following performers came out on top and will perform at next year's first-ever Onion Festival in Innisfil:

  • 3rd place: Madison Schofield -singing Piece by Piece by Kelly Clarkson - $100 cash prize
  • 2nd place: “Mindset” (Ryan Woolhead) - rapping "Spinning My Wheels" original song - $250 cash prize
  • 1st place: Eva Graves -acro dancing to Girl on Fire - $500 cash prize

“She (Graves) did a lot of tumbling!” recalls Watts. “Most of our dance submissions were professional/competition-style.”

“Hearing their struggles with Covid and being a musician (or singer/dancer) and how nice this (event) was to do and how it gave them a sense of accomplishment made this more valuable,” she adds.

The virtual door prize winner was Ryan George Woolhead who received a $50 gift certificate to ProudWest FunZone located in Stroud.

Additional prizes included a $10 gift certificate to Innisfil’s Johnny Burger and swag bags compliments of the Town of Innisfil. A gift basket was sponsored on behalf of the Innisfil IdeaLAB & Library.

“We had really great community support that helped us provide gifts,” said Watts.

Organizers of the talent show plan to make this an annual contest, and would like to thank local sponsors for contributing towards the prizes and cash awards:

The Town of Innisfil, Johnny Burger, Magnetsigns, Horodynsky Farms Inc., Miss Jennie’s Performing Arts Studio (MJ Pas), ProudWest Fireworks, and I.B. Your Paralegal (ibyp).

All winners have been announced on ICE Corp’s Facebook page and website, and anyone requiring more information about prizes or the contest can contact:  [email protected]
