Woman suffers life-threatening injuries, in stable condition after 'fall' from Anne St. bridge

She was rushed to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie and then transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre for treatment

Last night's closure of Highway 400 in Barrie led to one woman suffering life-threatening injuries, but she is in stable condition this morning, according to a police official.

Two separate incidents around 6 p.m., Thursday, forced a temporary closure of Highway 400 near the Anne Street overpass, between the Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street exits.

The first incident involved a woman who "fell" from the Anne Street overpass into the northbound lanes of the highway below.

She was rushed to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) and then transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the woman had “life-threatening injuries, but is in stable condition.”

Around the same time, there was also a rollover in the southbound lanes, just north of the Anne Street bridge, which OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said yesterday involved “multiple vehicles" and "people trapped inside those vehicles.”

On Friday, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told BarrieToday that there were no injuries in the southbound incident and no charges have been laid.

While the two incidents were yesterday reported by Schmidt as being separate, he says there may have been some “slowing down and someone not paying attention” in the southbound event.
