The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is excited to unveil their new Strategic Plan, Forward Together. As the organization looks forward to a future of recovery and stability, the three-year plan, which was launched on July 4, will serve as a roadmap to guide them.

"The last few years have been challenging," said Lynn Strachan, Board Chair, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. Strachan continued, "Despite challenges faced by our organization, we have worked tirelessly and have managed to adapt to changing circumstances. Now, like many others, the YMCA is looking forward to the future.”

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka's CEO, Jill Tettmann, outlined the main focus of the new strategic plan: “Our plan will help us better meet the needs of post-pandemic communities and fulfill our mission by bringing people together through experiences that build skills and confidence, increase health and strength, and create opportunities for exploration and growth. A plan that lets us move forward, together, because the YMCA has been bringing people together for nearly 170 years.”

The plan was the culmination of a year-long process that included community surveys, focus groups, and discussions with key stakeholders. The insights gained from this process will guide the Y's efforts over the next three years, as it continues to provide programs and services that have a positive impact on the communities they serve. The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka would like to thank the nearly thousand contributors, including residents, partners, staff, donors, and volunteers from across Simcoe, Muskoka, and the District of Parry Sound, who provided valuable feedback to inform the new plan.

The strategic plan covers the period of July 2022 through June 2025 and includes four key strategic directions:

  • Direction 1: Cultivate a great place to work and volunteer.
  • Direction 2: Strengthen the legacy of our Y for future generations.
  • Direction 3: Connect people to meaningful experiences where everyone belongs.
  • Direction 4: Promote the power of the Y.

"As our YMCA moves into this new chapter, we will continue to improve and expand programs and services to better meet the needs of our communities", said Tettmann. As the pandemic evolves, so will the YMCA's response, Tettmann says: "We know that change and adaptation are vital to our success, and through this new strategic plan, we are confident the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will respond to the stresses brought about by COVID-19 as we work together toward a vibrant future."
