For over 100 years the YMCA has been delivering camping programs to children, youth and families — this summer it will just look a little different.

"Camping is a core component to the Y's legacy of building healthy communities and inspiring people to reach their full potential," said YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka CEO Rob Armstrong. "We are looking forward to offering programs that will give children and youth the opportunity to experience ‘camp’ this summer, even in the face of COVID-19."

This summer, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka will be offering a combination of in-person programs and online virtual experiences through its various camping programs:

Day Camp: The YMCA will be offering a revised in-person summer program for children ages 4-12 in the following communities: Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia, and Wasaga Beach. Priority was given to those campers who registered prior to the pandemic. The Y is working with public health to create a safe space for our children, their families and our staff.

Family Camp: YMCA Geneva Park’s summer family camp program will open effective July 6. With limited programming available and increased scheduled cleaning, the Y is thrilled to have the opportunity to continue this over century-long tradition of leadership development and increased quality family time on beautiful Lake Couchiching.

Leadership Development: Although YMCA Camp Kitchikewana has been forced to forgo its traditional overnight camp program on Beausoleil Island for the first time since 1919, it is still delivering an online youth leadership development program this summer. Designed for high school students, participants will build skills through a combination of group work and independent study — and most of all have fun!

Virtual Camp: Bring the camp experience home! The YMCA is launching YCamp, a free virtual camp experience for everyone. YCamp kicks off July 6 and will run through Aug. 28. Each week campers will get the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of traditional camp programs instructed by Y leaders from across the country.
