Lefroy Minor Hockey's U11 team is golden, returning home as champions from the Ange Giajnorio Memorial Winter Thaw Tournament in Niagara Falls.

The tournament took place this past weekend with 16 U11 teams from across the province.

The U11 team won 5 straight games, including the championship game where they beat the Niagara Falls home team in a 1-0 shutout. The final game had parents riding a rollercoaster of emotions.

"We are so proud of these kids for their determination and hearts," said Sherri Keates, Lefroy Minor Hockey Association President. "Our bench staff for this team are absolutely top notch volunteers. Coaches Chris, Matt, Joe, Cole & Jacob. We are very lucky to have such a great team of volunteers supporting our players."

The U11 team is seated second in the Simcoe Regional Local League with a 14-2 record. Playoffs begin Tuesday in Innisfil against East Gwillimbury. Puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Morgan Russell Memorial Arena.

"Everyone is welcome to come cheer us on," said Keates.
