It is with great love we are called to honour the life of Major (Ret’d) Tom Hambley, 84, who passed away on March 27, 2023. Son of Cecil and Sona Hambley, he is carried on in the hearts of his beloved wife of 62 years, Barb (Ridout); children Michael (Janice), Kathy Schaefer (Jeff), and Sue Zinn (Bart McCutcheon); grandchildren Julia, Shawn (Julie), Jack (Michaila), Paige (Jeremy), Zach (Raychelle), Chris (Rebekah), Collin, Nicole (Mat), Mariah (Dylan), Isaac (Halie), and Will (Ally); and great-grandchildren Savannah and Rosie. Also missed by his brother Walter and sister-in-law Janice, brother-in-law Ken Ridout, and a myriad of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tom was born in Montreal on August 26, 1938, and moved to Thornhill in 1956. There he met his life partner, who attracted his attention with her loud laugh, and they married in 1961. They moved to Aurora in 1972 and Barrie/Innisfil in 1999. He was a proud Canadian who served with the Queen’s York Rangers and the Governor General’s Horse Guards. Concurrently, he started in the insurance industry and eventually became the president of the Jerral Group. He later became president of Cumba and Commodore of the Canadian Mariners Association, and dedicated countless hours to the community, culminating with his time at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and the Simcoe County Museum.

Tom will be remembered as protective, irreverent, strong-willed (ok, maybe stubborn), and a teller of stories (some true, but we don’t know which ones), but above all, as a family man.

In lieu of flowers, we would welcome donations to the Barrie Branch of the Salvation Army in Tom’s name.

You are welcome to join us at the celebration of life on Saturday, April 1 at 2pm at the Innisfil Funeral Home, 7910 Yonge St, Innisfil (Stroud), ON.
