19-year-old accused of assaulting police, resisting arrest

Two South Simcoe Police Service officers were assaulted during an arrest after responding to a call for a large disturbance in Innisfil.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2020 around 10 p.m., police were dispatched to a plaza in Alcona for a fight involving approximately 30 young people and reports of a crowbar, baseball bat and possible firearm. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect had [allegedly] assaulted one person with a crowbar during the altercation and another victim was punched and threatened.

A suspect was identified and officers attempted to arrest him nearby. [It is alleged that] the male refused to exit his vehicle, resisted arrest and assaulted police. He was taken into custody and transported to North Division where he was cleared by paramedics. The two officers were treated for minor head injuries.

Charged with the following offences is 19-year-old Jahshua Talbot of Innisfil:
    •    Assault with a weapon
    •    Assault
    •    Uttering threats
    •    Resist arrest - two counts
    •    Assault peace officer - two counts

He was held for a bail hearing. The investigation is ongoing.

South Simcoe Police Service is appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Some people were spoken to at the scene but others fled. Anyone with digital evidence in cell phone images and/or video is asked to contact us.
