South Simcoe Police Service officers are appealing for witnesses after an abandoned vehicle was struck by a GO train in Innisfil.

On Friday, Oct. 23, 2020 around 2 a.m., a citizen called police to report that an unoccupied SUV was parked close to the tracks in the 20th Sideroad and Innisfil Beach Road area. Moments later, a GO train struck the 2013 white KIA Soul. The train sustained minor damage. No one was hurt.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding this incident to call 705-436-2141, 905-775-3311, or contact Crime Stoppers.

Thank you to the citizen who alerted us to this situation. Any time is train time and they can't stop quickly. Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of this incident. Be rail smart. Stay safe when you are near or crossing tracks.
