Barrie police have charged a 15-year-old boy following a weapons call this morning in the city's south end.

A 15-year-old Barrie boy has been charged following a weapons call early this morning in the city's south end.

Around 12:25 a.m. on Aug. 1, Barrie police responded to a residence in the area of Townline Road (County Road 27) and Mapleview Drive West.

From the investigation that followed, police learned that, prior to their arrival, there had been an altercation between a homeowner and a youth after the homeowner observed "some suspicious behaviour" involving the youth at a nearby home.

When the homeowner engaged the youth in conversation, police say the youth became "enraged and aggressively approached the homeowner."

A fight ensued between the two; a firearm fell from the youth and landed on the road, according to police. As the youth fled, he allegedly uttered threats toward the homeowner.

Police seized a semi-automatic AirSoft-style pistol at the scene.

Officers later went to a residence in central Barrie where a 15-year-old boy was taken into custody without incident, police say. He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters.

The accused, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause bodily Harm or death, and breach of recognizance.

He has been held in custody for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear later today by video in Barrie court.
