Barrie driver charged with impaired after hitting guard rail on Highway 400

Police say they caught the driver trying to leave the scene

On Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020, around 3 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to a report of a vehicle striking a guard rail on Highway 400 and then exiting at County Road 89.  When officers arrived on scene, they located the vehicle in a ditch on County Road 89 between the 10th Sideroad and the 400.  

Police spoke to the driver who was walking away from the scene. He was arrested for impaired driving and transported to North Division where breath test results were over the legal limit.  

Charged with Operation While Impaired, Over 80 and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident was 31-year-old Sergio Pineda of Barrie. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. There were no injuries.

Thank you to the citizen who called us about this incident. Impaired driving is a crime in progress. Residents are encouraged to call 911 when they see someone they believe may be driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
