Belle Ewart man airlifted to Toronto following Innisfil crash

On Friday, June 19, 2020, at approximately 1:10 p.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Innisfil Fire and Simcoe County Paramedic Services to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 89, between the 5th Side Road and the Village of Cookstown, Innisfil.

The collision involved a red Hyundai Accent and a grey Hyundai Elantra. Both drivers were the lone occupants in their respective vehicles.

The driver of the grey Hyundai Elantra, a 19-year-old male from Barrie, was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the red Hyundai Accent, a 22-year-old male from Belle Ewart, was trapped in his vehicle and required extrication. He was transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto-area hospital.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended the scene and commenced an investigation. A road closure was in effect on Highway 89 between County Road 27 and the 5th Side Road of Innisfil.

The investigation is continuing. No charges have been laid at this time.
