A Barrie man has been charged with drug impaired driving and drug possession after a citizen alerted police to an erratic driver in Innisfil.

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 at approximately 11:15 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to the area of Innisfil Beach Road near 10 Sideroad and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was arrested and transported to North Division for examination by a drug recognition expert officer. Police searched the vehicle and located a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Joshua Lytle of Barrie was charged with operation while impaired, possession of drugs, and fail to surrender licence.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.

A drug-impaired driving offence occurs every three hours in Canada, each day. Thank you to the citizen who alerted us to this dangerous situation last night. South Simcoe Police Service is committed to road safety. Don't drive high.
