Five criminal charges laid against drivers during first week of school

On Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, the South Simcoe Police Service launched the annual "All Hands On Deck" Back to School Safety Campaign. All available officers were deployed to promote and enforce driver and pedestrian safety with a focus on school zones.

Here is the first week of school by numbers:

  • Highway Traffic Act tickets Issued: 36
  • Highway Traffic Act warnings issued: 19
  • Stunt driving: Two (90 km/h in a 40 and 135 km/h in a 60)
  • Alcohol suspension: One
  • Suspended driver: One
  • No insurance: One 
  • Criminal charges: Five (One traffic stop - impaired/refuse sobriety test/breach of conditions x3)

The South Simcoe Police Service would like to thank the motorists who helped us ensure the first week of school was safe for our students and their families. We continue to make Community Safety Zones a priority and urge all drivers to do their part for road safety.
