Gabriel Neil, 18, who graduated from Barrie's Bear Creek Secondary School in June, died of his injuries following a reported assault in London, Ont., that occurred early Saturday morning.

Neil was a first-year student at Western University.

He was found in the area of Western Road and Sarnia Road around 2 a.m., Saturday, suffering from serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

According to police, Neil later died as a result of his injuries.

The scene of the assault is a busy hub, especially for students – a parking lot next to a 7-Eleven gas station and a Subway restaurant, just west of the university’s TD Stadium. The area is surrounded by a cluster of student residences.

Neil moved to London to attend Western. His family moved to Simcoe, Ont., south of London, shortly after his high-school graduation.

A 21-year-old London man was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection to Neil’s death.
