Innisfil resident faces weapons charges

Police say the suspect tried to get into a neighbour's residence while carrying a handgun

INNISFIL – On Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at approximately 11 p.m., the South Simcoe Police Service responded to an offensive weapons call at a home in the area of Innisfil Beach Road and 25 Sideroad in Innisfil. Police received information that a man with a handgun had attended a neighbour's residence and wanted to enter. The man was intoxicated and the complainants were able to take the gun from the man. The man left advising he had more weapons at his house. The suspect’s home was quickly contained and the man was arrested without incident with the assistance of the K-9 Unit. Due to the nature of the occurrence, police seized the remaining firearms in the house which were legally owned.

As a result of the investigation, an Innisfil man was charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose,
  • Careless Use of a Firearm, and
  • Failure to Surrender Authorization.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.  Thankfully no one was injured in the incident.
