Innisfil youth facing charges after armed robbery

Police say the 16-year-old tried to rob a convenience store with a fake gun

A youth is facing charges following an armed robbery at a convenience store in Innisfil.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, around 11 p.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to a convenience store located in a plaza on Innisfil Beach Road in Alcona. Upon arrival, police learned that a suspect wearing a ski mask demanded money and threatened the clerk while carrying what appeared to be a handgun.

The clerk realized the gun was fake and two other people in the store tackled the suspect to the ground and held him for police. No one was injured.

A 16-year-old Innisfil youth was charged with:  

  • Robbery  
  • Disguise with intent  
  • Using an imitation firearm in commission of an offence 
  • Utter threats  

He was held for a bail hearing. The name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

South Simcoe Police Service is reminding citizens to protect your personal safety and avoid confronting suspects. Your life is not worth intervening in a theft or robbery. We are grateful this incident had an outcome where no one was hurt.
