A 36-year-old Tottenham woman was arrested Monday after a witness reported her driving erratically in a school parking lot.
Members of the Nottawasaga OPP responded to the Tottenham school where they found the driver had smashed into another vehicle, noting in a news release there were no injuries and that the incident took place after the students had been dismissed for the day. However, the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Nottawasaga detachment where breath tests revealed a blood alcohol content four times over the legal limit.
The suspect was charged with:
- Impaired driving contrary to section 320.14 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (C.C.C);
- Over 80 contrary to section 320.14 (1) (b) CC
The accused's driver's license was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Bradford Ontario Court of Justice in April.
Drivers charged with impaired operation face an immediate ninety-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and will have their vehicle impounded for seven days upon first charge. Upon conviction, drivers will face a licence suspension for a minimum of one year and include possible jail time.
Nottawasaga OPP continues to conduct traffic enforcement daily as drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs pose a threat to Ontario roads. This is National Impaired Driving Prevention Week.
