Police seize cocaine, fentanyl after stunt-driving stop in Innisfil

Driver and passenger both face trafficking charges

INNISFIL - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged two males with drug infractions after being stopped for stunt driving.

On June 21, 2020, approximately 8:45 p.m., members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team (TIME) were travelling on Highway 400 near Innisfil Beach Road, when a vehicle passed them at an extremely high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and, as a result of a thorough roadside investigation, quantities of cocaine and fentanyl were located in the vehicle. The driver and passenger were subsequently arrested.

With the assistance of the Orillia Street Crime Unit (SCU), the driver, D'Angelo Lewin, age 20, of Brampton, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - other drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The driver was released on a Form 10 undertaking and is set to appear on Sept. 8, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.

In addition, the passenger, Jermaine Ricketts, age 21, of Toronto, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on a Form 10 undertaking and is set to appear on Sept. 8, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
