South Simcoe Police lay multiple impaired driving charges over weekend

The following impaired driving charges were laid by the South Simcoe Police Service during the weekend of Oct. 16-17, 2021.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Jans Boulevard and Webster Boulevard in Innisfil.  A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, 47-year-old Jose Barbosa of Innisfil was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

  • On Sunday Oct. 17, 2021 at approximately 10:23 a.m., police responded to the area of 25th Sideroad in Innisfil for a report of a possible impaired driver. Police subsequently received a call regarding a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 20th Sideroad and Big Bay Point Road. The driver of one of vehicles was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, 29-year-old Stephanie Coulter of Innisfil was charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol and Dangerous Operation. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused and two people in the other vehicle were treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.

  • On Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer was driving on Innisfil Beach Road when an oncoming vehicle entered the wrong lane of traffic, causing the officer to swerve in order to avoid a collision. The officer conducted a traffic stop and the driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Justina Murray of Barrie was charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired - Excess Blood Alcohol. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days. She was released with a future court date.

DYK: 40% of fatally injured drivers had been drinking alcohol prior to the collision. Don’t add to this statistic. Make the right choice for road safety and always drive sober.
