Two drivers face impaired driving charges

A 22-year-old driver from Midland faces driving while impaired by drug charges and a 28-year-old from Scarborough faces impaired driving charges in separate incidents

Drug Impaired Driving

On Monday, May 25, at 9:15 a,m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a collision on Queen Street just west of King Street in Cookstown. Police were advised that a red Mazda travelling eastbound on Queen Street crossed the road and struck a vehicle parked facing westbound on the north side of the roadway.  

The driver was arrested for drug impaired driving and transported to South Division for examination by a Drug Recognition Expert.

 As a result, 22-year-old Duncan Peters of Midland was charged with dangerous operation, operation while impaired and failure or refusal to comply with demand.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.  No one was injured in the collision.

Impaired Driving

On Sunday, May 24, 2020,  around 2 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service were called to the area of Ewart Street and Isabella Street in Innisfil for a well-being check on a man passed out in the front seat of a vehicle.

Police arrived on scene and after failing a roadside screening device test,  the man was arrested for impaired driving. Subsequent breath tests resulted in readings over the legal limit of alcohol. 28-year-old Muhammad Aziz of Scarborough was charged with Over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

From Friday, May 22, 2020 to Monday, May 25, 2020, South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to 183 calls for service.
