BRADFORD - South Simcoe Police Service officers made an arrest after a Bradford resident confronted a thief going through his vehicle.

On Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 at approximately 8:50 p.m., police were called to a home in the Centre Street and Simcoe Road area in Bradford regarding a theft from a vehicle. When officers arrived, they learned that a man had confronted a suspect that was going through his vehicle. The man approached the suspect who pulled out a knife before fleeing on foot.

Additional officers responded to the area and the suspect was arrested at a gas station on Holland Street East. Police seized the knife and no one was injured.

Thirty-six-year-old William Pyke of no fixed address was charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle, carrying concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, and three counts of breach of probation order.

Thank you to all the citizens who step up and help police, whether it's reporting suspicious activity or calling 911 about a possible impaired driver. Our communities are safer when we all work together. We're thankful no one was injured and that the suspect was arrested without incident.
