13 new COVID cases confirmed in Simcoe-Muskoka today

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed a dozen new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County residents today and one new case in Muskoka.

Of the 13 new COVID-19 cases confirmed by the region's health unit today, there are 11 new cases in Barrie residents all in the same age group. 

The cases reported today include two women and nine men between the ages of 18 and 34 years old, and all from Barrie. The transmission sources for their cases are either listed as close contact (for five cases) or as under investigation (for six cases). 

The other two cases confirmed today include a woman from Innisfil between 35 and 44 years old, and a man from Huntsville who is over 80 years old. The Huntsville man's case is listed as close contact transmission. The Innisfil woman's case transmission is still under investigation. 

There is a surge in new, lab-confirmed cases in the region, based on reports by the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit. 

There are two institutional outbreaks still active in the region, including The Pines Long-Term Care residence in Bracebridge (declared Aug. 30), and Roberta Place in Barrie (declared Sept. 5). 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has now reported a total of 761 coronavirus cases in the region to date, with 719 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of all the cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, 673 are listed as recovered and 37 people have died. One person from New Tecumseth is in hospital.

The health unit reports there are 44 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, including 33 in Barrie, two in Bradford, two in New Tecumseth, four in Innisfil, one in Wasaga Beach, one in Springwater, and one in Ramara. There are seven unrecovered cases in Muskoka District.
