171 new COVID-19 cases in region since Friday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed a record-breaking 171 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, of those 166 are Simcoe County residents.

There are 15 new cases in Innisfil today including five youth under 18, four individuals between 18 and 34 years old, a person between 35 and 44 years old, and six people between 45 and 64 years old. 

There are three new cases in Collingwood, all men. One is between 18 and 34 years old and the other two are between 45 and 64 years old. Their cases are under investigation. 

There are four new cases in Clearview Township today, including two men and a woman between 18 and 34 years old and a woman between 35 and 44 years old whose case is community-acquired. Two cases are linked to close contact. 

There are four new cases in Wasaga Beach today, including two women between 18 and 34 years old, and a man and a woman between 45 and 64 years old. All are under investigation. 

There are 55 new cases in Barrie today. Of the new Barrie cases, seven are youth under, 26 are individuals between 18 and 34 years old, six are between 35 and 44 years old, 13 are between 45 and 64 years old, two are between 65 and 79 years old, and one is over 80 years old. 

In Bradford West Gwillimbury there are 15 new cases including six people between the ages of 18 and 34 years old, two between 35 and 44 years old, and seven between 45 and 64 years old. 

There are six new cases in Midland today, two are individuals between 18 and 34 years old, one is between 35 and 44 years old, and three are between 45 and 64 years old. 

There are nine new cases in Orillia on today's list. One is a youth under 18 (community-acquired), three are individuals between 18 and 34 years old, four are between 35 and 44 years old, and a man between 45 and 64 years old. Four Orillia cases are linked to congregate setting outbreaks, which refers to an outbreak at a facility where people reside permanently or temporarily. 

There are 10 new cases in Oro-Medonte today, all individuals between 18 and 34 years old and all linked to a congregate setting outbreak. 

The remaining cases in Simcoe County reported by the health unit today one in Ramara, two in Tay Township, 12 in Springwater, 18 in New Tecumseth, 11 in Essa, and one in Adjala-Tosorontio. 

The health unit confirmed five cases in Muskoka including two residents from Bracebridge, one from Gravenhurst, one from Hunstville, and one from Muskoka Lakes. 

Of the 171 cases reported by the health unit since today (which includes all cases confirmed since Friday), seven were community-acquired, 26 were close contacts of other known cases, 26 are linked to outbreaks at institutions, congregate settings, workplaces, or schools, and the rest are still under investigation. 

The health unit has now confirmed 2,418 cases of COVID-19 in the region with 1,994 of those cases recovered and 53 deaths. There are more than 250 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County. Nine people are hospitalized.

Locally, the cumulative incidence rate for Simcoe County is 438 cases per 100,000 people.
